The mantel is a material drawing translated into a thick, textural, and ornate surface evoking a range of associations from the geologic to a field of sound wave interference. The tool paths add depth and softness while either cataloging the topography of the parent surface or running misaligned to it, providing a counter graining. This mantle was CNC milled from 4 laminated layers of ¾” MDF measuring 6’-0” x 3’-0” x 3” and finished with white Appliance Epoxy. Fabrication consultation by Live Architecture Network, LaN.
